If English isn't the main language spoken at home, homeschooling adds a real layer: your child may be building English and building academic skills at the same time. That's genuinely more to manage β here's an honest look at what tends to help, and where Lumi Academy fits.
Try Lumi Free for 72 Hours βA child who speaks another language at home and is still building English proficiency is doing two jobs at the same time as their peers: learning new academic content, and learning the language that content is delivered in. That's not a reflection of ability β kids in this situation are often working harder than it looks from the outside. Every family's starting point is different: some kids are conversationally fluent in English but newer to academic vocabulary, others are earlier in the process across the board. What helps tends to look similar either way β material a child can revisit, work at their own pace, and build confidence with words before being asked to perform with them in front of others.
We want to be direct about this: Lumi Academy's lessons, instructions, and interface are in English. We don't offer a Spanish, Mandarin, or other non-English interface for the Academy curriculum, and we're not going to claim otherwise. If your family needs a fully multilingual academic curriculum, Lumi Academy on its own isn't that.
Lumi Lingo, our separate language-learning app, teaches Spanish, French, Mandarin, Japanese, Russian, and ASL to kids β it's built for learning a new language, not for delivering a full K-8 academic curriculum in a language other than English. It's a different product for a different job, and it isn't required to use Lumi Academy.
Kids never voice-answer in Lumi Academy β they tap or type responses, with no requirement to speak or pronounce anything aloud. For a child who's still building spoken English confidence, that removes one common source of pressure. Lessons can also be repeated and slowed down without a classroom moving on without them, which matters when new vocabulary takes extra exposure to stick.
A child building English proficiency might be right on grade level in math but need more time and repetition in reading or writing-heavy subjects. Because every subject in Lumi Academy tracks and paces independently, a child isn't held back everywhere just because one language-heavy subject needs more time.
