The Trivium: Three Stages of Classical Learning

Classical education follows the Trivium: the GRAMMAR stage (roughly K–5) focuses on memorization and foundational facts; the LOGIC stage (roughly 6–8) builds reasoning and argument analysis; the RHETORIC stage (high school) focuses on persuasive communication and synthesis. Each stage matches how children naturally develop cognitively.

How Lumi Supports Each Stage

🔤 Grammar Stage (K–5): Building the Foundation

Lumi's kindergarten through 5th grade lessons emphasize exactly what the grammar stage calls for: phonics, math facts, vocabulary, and foundational knowledge across science and history — delivered through repetition and structured practice that builds long-term retention.

🧠 Logic Stage (6–8): Reasoning and Analysis

Lumi's grade 6–8 curriculum shifts toward argument analysis, evidence-based reasoning, debate, and multi-step problem solving — subjects like rhetorical analysis, logical fallacies, and persuasive writing directly support logic-stage thinking.

📜 Add Latin, Logic, and Great Books Separately

Lumi doesn't teach Latin or replace a great-books reading list — most classical families pair Lumi's core academic subjects (math, science, grammar-stage memorization) with a separate Latin program and literature list for a complete classical education.

Why Classical Families Choose Lumi for the Core

⚖️ Rigor Without the Daily Grading Burden

Classical curricula are often academically rigorous but require significant parent-led teaching and grading. Lumi automates the core academic subjects — math, science, grammar, and social studies — so parents can focus their energy on Latin, logic, and discussion-based great books study.
